The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Dr. Freda Prempeh, has expressed worry over the deplorable state of the Ahafo Regional Rent Control Office, which is not accelerating the performance of staff.
The Minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North in Ahafo Region, said this during her unannounced visit to the office at Goaso, capital of the region, to assess briefly the work of the staff.
According to her, an office of such calibre need not lack logistics such as computers, printers among others, to undertake its mandate for the people of the region and per what she witnessed, she was extremely shocked.
“The office is meant for the entire region therefore it must be equipped to the fullest to deal with all rent related issues,” she stated.
She added that the building allocated for the regional rent office is also below standard and that with immediate affect her outfit will team – up with the Asunafo North Municipal assembly where the office is located to find a deserving place to improve the activities of the staff.
Dr. Freda Prempeh commended the staff especially the Regional Manager for working under such deplorable condition.
The Ahafo Regional Rent Control Manager, Essien Ishmael, thanked the sector Minister for pledging to support them to improve their output of work and urged her to visit them often to lay down proper foundation since the region is new.
He stated that it was not easy for them to have an office to execute their mandate because Goaso being the regional capital has attracted many institutions.
According to him, the regional rent office is in talks with the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly and the Paramount Chief of Goaso Traditional Council to hold a series of meetings with landlords to educate them on building related matters.
The Ahafo Regional Rent Control Manager hinted that currently it is not easy to rent a room, apartment and house in Goaso because charges from landlords are unbearable.
“They think once Goaso is the capital, their fees ought to be high but it’s wrong.”
He added that his outfit was putting measures in place for sanity to prevail in the entire region.
