The family of Nene Paddy Kofi, Odikro of Okanta Srah, a suburb of Suhum in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, is yet to come to terms with the circumstances that led to the disappearance of their beloved father’s body from the local hospital.
According to the Family Head, Apostle Paddy Ologo, the late Nene Paddy Kofi’s body was deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue three months ago, but could not be traced when they went to collect the body for burial.
He disclosed that the family had made all the necessary arrangements for the final funeral rites of the 96 year old Odikro at the Sra Community Park on Saturday April 10, 2021.
The solemn atmosphere at the Sra Community Park was, however, reduced to a state of aggression when the chief mourners were told that the body of the late Odikro could not be found at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue.
The Family Head continued that the mood at the funeral grounds was that of disappointment, as friends and sympathisers who had traveled from far and near to mourn with the family were turned away.
According to Apostle Paddy Ologo, the mortuary attendants could not explain to the family how the corpse went missing, and had since not given them any assurance that the body would be found. The family has, therefore, given management of the hospital three days to produce the dead body, else hell would break loose.
According to the family, they would have no option than to sue management of the hospital if they failed to produce the dead body of their beloved father and Odikro, since nothing can appease the disgrace and embarrassment the hospital had subjected them to.
According to them, they had reported the case to the Suhum District Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and were awaiting their response.
The Suhum District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joseph Owusu, confirmed that the Paddy Family had lodged an official complaint about the missing of their late father’s corpse. Officials of the hospital, however, had declined not to comment on the matter.
Snippets of information gathered by The Chronicle indicate that management of the Suhum Government Hospital and Police Command were going to have a crunch meeting with the family on today to find measures to bring peace to the area.
