Nana Owoahene Kwaku Acheampong-Twum II, Chief of Kokodei in the Bosomtwe District, has presented over 2,000 assorted textbooks to the District Assembly Primary and Junior High School at Kokodei.
The items, estimated to cost GH¢20,000, were purposely to facilitate teaching and learning in the two basic institutions, and to relieve parents of the burden of providing such books, particularly, in the current COVID-19 pandemic, which has taken its toll on businesses.
Presenting the books in the presence of the Queenmother, Nana Nyarko Afriyie, the Chief disclosed he was moved by the challenges facing schools in his community, which impeded their academic performance.
He assured the staff and students during the presentation, that he would prioritise education on his developmental agenda, in line with the government’s policy of promoting education.
Nana Acheampong Twum, who had lived in Belgium for many years, was enstooled Chief of Kokodei two years ago, pledged to direct his resources and energy into the development of the Kokodei township.
He appealed to the citizens to join hands with him to achieve the set goal. He also advised both teachers and students to rise up to the occasion in order to project the schools and the community through education.
Receiving the books, the Headmaster of the local D/A Junior High School (JHS), Justice Amoah Opoku, commended the efforts of the Chief towards the enhancement of education in his community.
He noted that the books had come at the right time, and assured him of utilising them to serve the purpose for which they were donated.
Mr. Opoku briefed the Chief on other challenges facing the school, to which Nana Twum assured him of his preparedness to address them.
