The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has admitted a total of 8,521 out of a total of 8,697 applicants to pursue various courses of study this academic year.
As at last Friday March 5, 2021, about 6,051 students had accepted the offer of admission.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Ing. Professor Nana Osei-WusuAchaw, who welcomed the fresh students to the University’s 29th Matriculation ceremony at the weekend cautioned them that by their admission they had entered into a contract with the University and therefore were bound by the oath to strictly adhere to all rules and regulations of the university.
“Breaking the oath had the potential of jeopardising your academic career”, he warned.
He reminded the fresh students that the university maintains high standards in terms of academics and will therefore not compromise them and advised them to pay serious attention to their lectures and also cultivate the habit of reading especially reference materials.
The VC also advised them to avoid any incidents of examination malpractice since that can lead to their dismissal.
The Vice Chancellor further noted that, the tendency for students to abuse their new found freedom associated with being a University students is eminent and warned that the absence of strict restrictions like having to obtain exeat before going out of the school campus should rather prompt them to be more careful as students.
Professor Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw therefore advised then to form study groups and work as a team as they share their talents and motivate each other.
He was quick to advise that not all relationships are beneficial so such should be avoided because they can distract their campus life and weaken their focus.
“To achieve your aim of coming here, you need to recognize these toxic relationships and know when to walk away from them ” he stressed and also advised then to avoid bad company which can lead to vices such as gayism, lesbianism, alcoholism, indecent dressing and other unbridled sexual lives.
The University, he said, frowns on these behaviours and will not hesitate to apply the necessary sanctions against those who fall foul to the rules and regulations of the institution.
