The Board of Department of Herbal Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of KNUST, led by Professor Isaac Ayensu has engaged the Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine as a strategic partner to enhance the training and practising of herbal medicine in Ghana.
The partnership is part of the department’s move in soliciting the inputs of all stakeholders in the herbal medicine fraternity for the department’s 10-year-strategic plan created by the board of the department.
At a brief meeting at the Ashaiman campus of Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine to seal the partnership, Professor Ayensu said: “On a personal note, I wish to state that I am excited to work closely with your honourable office to get the best for our students as well as the practitioners of herbal medicine in Ghana. In fact, my Department is happy for this great partnership.”
On his part, the President of Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine, Professor Raphael Nyarkotey Obu expressed excitement about the development and said it would enhance the progress of herbal medicine.
He was emphatic that herbal medicine has come to stay in Africa and Ghana for that matter, for scientific studies support the use of herbal medicine.
In view of this, he said there is no need for standardisation and encouraged Ghanaians to believe in the natural treatment and efficacy of herbal medicines.
“With this collaboration, Ghana should expect a different approach in the healthcare sector in 10 years,” Professor Nyarkotey said.
The Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine is a recognised holistic medical school with specialty in Naturopathic Medicine. The College is fully-accredited by the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Practice council of the Ministry of Health.
The College is also a member of the World Naturopathic Federation (WNF), Canada, and the school’s President said the college’s future plan is to also offer programmes in Chiropractic Medicine, Acupuncture and Ayurveda.
