A 25 year old nurse at Nchiraa in the Wenchi Municipality in the Bono region, Miss Erica Adufa, has been shot dead by armed robbers, who attacked passengers in a taxi cab, between Nchiraa and Subinso II in the municipality.
The incident occurred at about 7:30pm on Saturday, February 27, 2021, according to a victim of the attack.
The driver of the Opel Astra taxi cab, with registration number GW 4850 X, identified as Sonyam Sampson, 32, who was shot in the head and is in a critical condition, was rushed in an ambulance to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
Speaking to The Chronicle on phone, the Medical Director at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, Dr Oman Abraham said two other passengers on board the taxi cab, Ofosu Nuamah, 50 and one Steven Amoah, are currently in stable conditions and responding to treatment at the hospital.
According to Dr Abraham, the body of the deceased nurse, which arrived at the hospital dead, at about 8pm, has been deposited at the morgue pending autopsy.
Narrating the ordeal, one of the victims, Mr Nuamah, said he was returning from Subinso to Nchiraa with his boys after work.
According to him, about three miles to reach Nchiraa, around 7:30pm, some armed men with two motorbikes and torch lights flagged the taxi cab to stop.
“We thought some people were in some trouble and needed our help, but immediately the driver slowed down, the armed men opened fire on us”, he recounted.
Mr Nuamah said a bullet hit his left hand, pierced through it and hit the face of the nurse who died instantly. He said his fourteen year old child, who was also in the vehicle, did not sustain any injury.
He recalled that after over thirty minutes and no police response, a good Samaritan conveyed them in his vehicle to the hospital.
“When the incident happened, a call was made to the police, but for over thirty minutes there was no police response, till a good Samaritan came along and took us to hospital”, he said.
The Wenchi Police Command is yet to comment on the matter.
