Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Ashanti Monarchy, has launched a huge crusade against the spread of the new variant of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19), otherwise known as SARS-COV2.
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has erected billboards across the regional capital, urging his subjects, and residents in the cosmopolitan area in particular and across the length and breadth of the country in general, to strictly ensure the observing of all COVID-19 protocols.
Dubbed: “Hye Ma me” the King implored residents to wear the nose masks for his sake, and protect lives and stop further spread of the pandemic.
By the mounted billboards dotted along major routes in the city, the King is prevailing on the people to make it a habit to wear a nose and mouth mask before they step out as well as observe social distancing and sanitising their hands as often as possible amid hand washing with soap under flowing water.
The King, by inference, said society faces a huge risk in the face of the prevalence of COVID-19 and stressed that the only way to contain its spread is to go by WHO prescribed protocols endorsed by the government and Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health.
He advised that those who feel unwell or experience any of the symptoms of COVID-19 should report to the hospital or directed by the Ministry of Health.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the Asantehene OtumfuoOsei Tutu II has joined in the fight against the disease.
He distributed relief items to deprived communities in the Greater Kumasi jurisdiction during the lockdown in April, last year as part of the measures by the Asantehene to support the needy in complying with the President’s directive to combat the c pandemic.
The relief items include rice, oil, canned tomatoes, mackerel, sardine, salt, packs of sachet and bottled water, hand sanitisers, medicated soap, vegetables and fruits.
He also presented Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to the frontline health workers in the various health facilities in Greater Kumasi.
Currently, Otumfuo believes the fight against COVID-19 is a collective responsibility hence his intervention in prevailing on members of the general public via billboards to adhere to safety protocols and directives.
