The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in partnership the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFIC) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), is organising a seminar on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday February 9, 2020.
Being organised under the theme: “Optimising AfCFTA for Ghanaians; sensitizing all the Regional Business Communities in sync with the opportunities,” the seminar would be held at the Golden Tulip Kumasi City Hotel, between 10am and 3pm.
A joint statement issued in Kumasi, and signed by Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye, Public Relations Officer of KMA, said the panel of experts for the seminar will explain the entire scope of the AfCFTA, expectations and the opportunities the AfCFTA brings to the general tracking community of the Ghana International Trade Commission to participants.
The experts would include a trade negotiator, Angola, and the Executive Secretary of the Ghana International Trade Commission.
The seminar will explain the mandate of GITC, and how GITC will play to their advantage during implementation, in terms of Unfair Trade, Dumping and Anti-dumping.
An Assistant Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) (in charge of AfCFTA), will speak to participants on the Rules of Origin and how goods can be easily moved across the Continent during implementation.
The statement indicated that the Chief Immigration Officer (in Charge of AfCFTA) will explain to participants how Services and Labor can move easily across the Continent during implementation, while a representative from Finance and Trade (in Charge of FINTECH-BoG) will explain to participants the payment platforms expected to facilitate trade, and the available instruments for financing their trading activities
It would be recalled that Accra was officially declared the Commercial Capital of Africa by virtue of the fact that the Headquarters of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is situated in Accra, by the Senior Minister, Ing. Yaw Osafo Maafo, on behalf of H.E the President at the 4th Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference, last October, 2020.
As charged by the Senior Minister, this golden opportunity was not to be limited to Accra, but had the propensity to spread to the business communities in the various regions, hence, the Kumasi seminar on February 9.
