The Paramount Chief for the Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Agyefi Kwame III, has conceded that he regrets, together with the Western Regional House of Chiefs (WRHC), lobbying for ministerial portfolios for some indigenes of the region during the first term of President Akufo-Addo.
For this reason, he did not think he and the House may want to lobby for ministerial appointments for indigenes of the region for the second term of the President.
‘Mostly, we (chiefs) send [a] delegation to President and present names of nominees for consideration, but I doubt we may want to do it this time round, because some of the nominees we lobbied for showed bad faith.”
Speaking on Radio 360 in Takoradi, the Nsein Paramount Chief told the host that he did not think he would put himself up to lobby for positions for persons from the region, because, in his own words, “those we had helped later made us look like toilet roll in their hands.”
There have been calls by party members in the region making a strong case for the chiefs to lobby for ministerial positions for their indigenes.
They are making a strong case for an indigene of the region to head the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry, considering that no one from the region has ever been appointed to head the ministry.
They are lobbying for the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, to be considered for the ministry.
They believe the Tarkwa MP has the experience and capability to head the Lands and Natural Resource Ministry, having served as Vice Chairman of the 7th Parliament, and being the only MP to retain his seat in the mining communities.
But considering the argument by the Omanhene for Nsein that no chief was ready to lobby for a ministerial position for any indigene contradicts the position of the chiefs in the Wassa who have are rooting for an indigene to be considered for the Lands and Natural Resource Ministry. Ohyeawora Bian Nwiah Payin IV, Chief of Dompim-Pepessa, on his part, told this reporter it was time a son of the soil was appointed to head the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry.
His reason is that the region abounds in natural resources and the time to have an indigene as Lands and Natural Resource Minister was now. Ohyeawora went ahead and proposed the Legislature for the Tarkwa Nsuaem as a nominee the chiefs of Wassa Fiase would want the President to consider to head the Ministry.
But the Paramount Chief of Nsein believes none of the members of the House of Chiefs would want to risk lobbying for ministerial positions for anyone.
“For me, I am not ready to lobby for a position for anyone, because I did four years ago and we have regretted doing that.”
