The youth of Banda Ahenkro in the Banda District of the Bono Region have given Kwame Baffoe, Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a two-week ultimatum to substantiate his claim that people of Banda-Ahenkro are ‘murderers and cannibals’.
They want him to retract and apologise for peace to prevail in the area.
The youth, who were reacting to the purported insults hurled at the people of Banda Ahenkro by Kwame Baffoe during a press conference, noted that the Kabrono Chief and Kwame Baffoe have embarked on an agenda to destroy the hard won reputation of Banda-Ahenkro and its entire citizens, including the youth of Banda-Ahenkro.
Kwame Baffoe is said to have described all the people of Banda-Ahenkro as “murderers and cannibals” on Oman FM’s “Boiling Point Programme on December 17, last year.
However, on Monday December 28, 2020, Sah Kyame Siniapem II, Chief of Banda Kabrono, also in the Banda District, insult of all people in Banda-Ahenkro, jumped to the defence of Kwame Baffoe.
But Kennedy Sah, Spokesman for the Banda Ahenkroyouth, has expressed surprise at how the Chief of Kabrono could rather come to the defence of Kwame Baffoe, who allegedly insulted the people of Banda-Ahenkro, and said by his conduct and open support of Abronye’s outrageous insult, the Kabrono Chief had exposed himself by selling his conscience.
On December 22, 2020, the Chief of Banda Ahenkro renewed his call for the investigation, arrest and prosecution of the killers of Silas Wulo Chame of Banda-Ahenkro, who was brutally murdered in front of the NPP’s Constituency office in Kabrono, where the Chief hails from.
The youth wondered what the Kabrono Chief was afraid of and supporting Abronye instead of condemning the murder of Silas Wulo Chame, a native of Banda-Ahenkro, at Kabrono during the voter registration exercise.
The youth reiterated the call on the government, the Inspector-General of Police, security agencies, National Peace Council, civil society organisations, diplomatic community, religious organisations, National House of Chiefs, leadership of all political parties and the media to push for investigations, arrest and prosecution of the killers of Silas.
Spokesman Sah also called on all right-thinking Ghanaians, people of conscience, goodwill, solidarity, peace, and love to disregard the Chief claiming to support Abronye’s insult of the Banda-Ahenkro people, who he described as lovely and hospitable.
