An Akuapem Mampong Magistrate Court, presided over by Her Honour Felicia Antwi Anane, has remanded a 54-year-old Awukugua-based businessman, Nana Yaw Mante, into police custody for allegedly pouring acid on one Deborah Osei, a Senior High School graduate suspected to be his former girlfriend, and supposed mother in-law, Madam Asi Jacklyn, for rejecting his proposal of marriage.
Nana Yaw Mante, after committing the crime surrendered himself to the Adukrom Police Command and was immediately dragged to the Akuapem Mampong Magistrate Court.
The court remanded the suspect in order to pave way for thorough investigations to be conducted into the matter. He is to reappear on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
Meanwhile, the family of Deborah Osei and Madam Asi Jacklyn, who sustained various degrees of injuries, has called on the public to assist their relatives undergo treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
According to the family, the incident had deepened the already financial challenges facing the family, and that they are struggling to raise funds to pay for their treatment at the hospital
Mr. Daniel Adu, a family member, told The Chronicle that they had so far spent GH¢5,000 out of little contributions made by members of the family, and would need more funds for treatment and surgery.
According to Mr. Adu, Madam Asi Jacklyn was referred from the Mampong Hospital to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital last week Thursday, whilst the daughter would also follow on Monday December 21, 2020.
Mr. Daniel Adu further told this reporter that without public support it would be very difficult for surgery to be done on the duo.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere Constituency and Minister for Regional Reorganisation, Dan Botwe, on Thursday, donated GH¢2,000 cash through the Okere New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executives to the family.
The Chief of Awukugua, Osabarima Opase Konadu II, has also given the family GH¢500.
It would be recalled that this paper carried a story under the headline “Jealous DCE’s Dad Acid-Baths Ex-lover and mother” in its Wednesday December 16, 2020 edition.
The paper reported that the businessman, who, according to credible information gathered by The Chronicle, is a father to one of the District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Eastern Region, did the unthinkable when their relationship went sour.
According to the information, Deborah Osei, who was allegedly in a relationship with the man old enough to her father, suffered the barbaric act when she decided to end the relationship.
This reporter was told that Debora and the family hugely benefited financially from the DCE’s father during her SHS education, but the once upon time romance moment turned tragic after the young girl and mother allegedly decided not to honor their side of the bargain.
