Residents of AssinAwisem in the Central Region were on Saturday, terrified by horrendous news that a 27 year old Ebenezer Antwihad allegedly poisoned his two year old step daughter. According to sources, a day before his arrest, the suspect had a quarrel with the mother of the victim, Madam Alice Gbeve, his fiancée.
It was not immediately known what led to the tiff between the two love birds, but police sources confirmed that the suspect took the victim away after the wrangle with his fiancée.
Official information from the police indicated that at 15:30 hours that Saturday, the mother of the victim reported to Awisem police that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Ebenezer Antwi.
According to her account to the police, the alleged assault took place at about 10:30 GMT the previous day after which Antwi took away Victoria Twumasi, his step daughter.
As at 15:30 GMT, Saturday, suspect Ebenezer Antwi and victim Victoria Twumasi had not returned home, a situation that got her alarmed.
At about 18:00 hours the same day, intelligence picked by the police had it that the suspect was heading towards AssinAsamang without little Victoria.
According to information released by the police, the suspect was arrested and during interrogations he admitted to murdering the innocent child.
“Suspect confessed to police that he gave Victoria Twumasi, who was his step daughter ‘gramoxone’, a popular weedicide”, Police said.
He disclosed further that he placed the dead body under a cocoa tree and that a search party was sent to the scene where the body of the child was discovered. The body has since be deposited at the TwifoPraso government hospital for preservation and autopsy, while further investigation is underway
