Police in Suhum in the Eastern Region have mounted a search for a missing service driver, Inspector Charles Adamu, of the Police Hospital. The operation is being undertaken by a combined team of police personnel, Fire Service personnel, divers and local civilian volunteers.
The Suhum District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Mr Joseph Owusu, who is personally leading the search party, told the paper that he had called for an ‘all hands on deck’ approach from the outlying communities of Asuboi for assistance.
According to him, on Thursday October 29, 2020, a report was made at the Suhum Police Charge Office that Inspector Adamu, who was driving a service vehicle, disappeared from Accra the previous day and had since not been seen.
The Commander went on that the complainant, a policewoman, also in Accra, named the missing Inspector as her husband with whom she had three children.
The wife, he stated, narrated that she traced the service vehicle, GP 144, to Asuboi, but the husband was nowhere to be found, though the ignition was on.
The District Police boss stated that based on the information, the police mobilised volunteers who accompanied the personnel to commence the search, locate and produce the Inspector, alive or dead.
Chief Superintendent Owusu continued that the divers combed through the rivers and ponds around to no avail.
The wife of the missing officer, Inspector Georgina Nkansah, also told The Chronicle that Inspector Adamu was not feeling well, hence, obtained some days of excuse duty.
According to her, on that on that fateful Wednesday, October 28, 2020, the Inspector left home saying that he was going to visit another driver friend, but failed to return.
She then enquired from the said friend who confirmed speaking to the Inspector who wanted to see him, but he was away to pick a patient so they did not meet.
Out of curiosity, the wife scanned a phone belonging to the husband and found contacts of people at Asuboi where the man has a parcel of land, and felt he might have probably gone there, more so, his family head lives in that part of the Eastern Region.
After fruitless attempts there was nothing concrete, so she moved and found the service vehicle at Asuboi without her husband, hence made a report to the nearest police in Suhum.
Further information gathered by the paper indicates that he paid half of the amount for the land leaving the other half. It goes on that there was no litigation over the land to warrant a possible attack by land guards.
