The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tong-Rana KubilsongNalebegtang, has said the second term victory for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is assured.
According to the Tong-Rana, President Akufo-Addo has goodies in mind to transform the entire Upper East Region, thus he had already cleared his way to victory.
“We know that there are quite a number of projects in mind which, very soon, in your next term, will brighten the whole of the Upper East Region, and Tongo inclusive. We therefore want to say that you have already cleared the way for your next term in office,” he said.
The Tong-Rana said this on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, when President Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Tongo, at the commencement of his 2-day working visit of the Upper East Region.
Addressing the President, the Tong-Rana said President Akufo-Addo had heard their prayers and cries, and as a result, he commended the President’s response to their challenges.
The Chef outlined some of the developmental projects the Akufo-Addo-led government had undertaken in his traditional area for instance and expressed appreciation for same.
He said, “Mr President, you have heard most of our prayers, our cries and concerns already. We want to acknowledge your response to them, especially the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam, the Bolga-Bawku-Polimakom road, which was promised to be constructed by previous regimes without any action, but is today nearing completion under your stewardship.”
He further noted that several other projects such as the 1-Village-1-Dam initiative, the Free Senior High School policy and the construction of its attendant infrastructure, and the construction of several road and rail projects are examples of the amount of work undertaken by President Akufo-Addo and his Government.
To this end, “Mr President, I say well done. Mr. President, I will call you ‘President Promise-Do’, because you do what you say you will. So, Mr. President, you take the name ‘President Promise-Do’ from this palace,” Tong-Rana KubilsongNalebegtang added.
President Akufo-Addo visited the Tong-Rana’s palace on a “special prayer day and a day of sacrifice for Tong-Ran, which is a period of thanksgiving to God for the harvest, peace, good health and long life of Talen-Teng”, the Tong-Rana stated.
He remarked that “I do not know who told you or proposed this date to you, but I must say that the gods of Talen-teng and Almighty directed you to come here, particularly today, to receive your victory blessings.”
The Tong-Rana continued, “Once you have entered this palace, you are the first to enter this palace in this time of the period where political campaign has started, and, therefore, being the first to be here, you will be the first at the end of it all.”
Later yesterday, President Akufo-Addo, as part of his tour inspected the completed “One-Village-One-Dam” project constructed in Namoligo in the Talensi constituency of the Upper East Region.
Accompanied by the Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Abayage, and the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, President Akufo-Addo was told that the construction, in fulfilment of the 2016 manifesto pledge of the New Patriotic Party, was undertaken by the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA).
The Namoligo Dam is one of ten (10) small dams which have been completed by government through GIDA/Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The contract for the construction of the Dam was awarded in May 2019 and has been substantially completed.
With the project costing GH¢2.5 million, the Namoligo dam has a water storage capacity of 145,300 cubic meters, and has a minimum dam life of forty (40) years.
The President was told that, for occasional (supplementary) irrigation, the cropping area for vegetables can increase to some fifty (50) hectares, with optimum yields assured, since crops will always get the needed water required for healthy growth throughout the growth stages.
To facilitate water access for irrigation, two outlets, controlled by sluice valves, have been provided at vantage points to allow free flow of water on either side of the valley.
Indeed, GIDA has constructed ten (10) similar small dams with irrigation outlets in Upper West Region, and the Northern Region, all in support of “One Village One Dam” programme.
The President urged members of the community to take very good care of the dam, and hoped that the Namoligo community and the other 10 communities, that are beneficiaries of the dams, will use them for their own benefit.
