Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has been honoured as an Outstanding Politician the by Pan-African Heroes Foundation.
The award is for his role as a unifier who served as Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and Regional Minister for the Ashanti and Central regions.
According to the Foundation, Dr. Sarpong, having been also appointed as the Managing Director of State Housing Company in the late John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama administrations, was an outstanding and unmatched politician in Ghana’s history.
Dr. Sarpong, who served at the Serious Fraud Office now (EOCO) in Kumasi, became the Zonal Head of the SFO for the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions and distinguished himself exceptionally well.
Dr. Sarpong pursued a Diploma course in Criminology at Bulgaria from 1992 to 1996, which exposed him to wide range of issues relating to investigations and general knowledge in gathering information on criminal issues.
He enrolled at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for a Master’s Programme in Leadership and Governance in 2007.
Dr. Sarpong served as the Security Co-ordinator of the National Sports Council in the Ashanti Region from 1997 to 2001, as well as a Member and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the CAN 2000.
Mr. Isaac Rockson, Chief Executive Officer of Pan African Heroes Foundation, commended Dr. Sarpong and urged him to continue to serve Ghana.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sarpong dedicated the award to the late former president John Evans Atta Mills and Mr. John Dramani Mahama for giving him the opportunity to serve Mother Ghana.
