The Director General of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Isaac Ken Yeboah, has cautioned detectives to act professionally or get dismissed.
“The CID from today demands much from you. Any report that I receive should be a positive one. Now that you are holding certificates, the least thing that you will do to tarnish the image of the Detective Training Academy or the CID, means you have paved your way with okro soup, the slightest push and off you go.
“It doesn’t matter whether you have acquired training or not. If you exhibit unprofessional conduct, I will not hesitate to push you away from the detective department. So I expect each and every one here to go back and attend to your duties professionally.”
He made these comments at the closing ceremony of some fifty Detectives who were taken through a three week course on sexual and gender based violence at the Detective Training Academy (DTA) in Accra.
The training, which commenced on August 3rd to August 20th, 2020 was designed to equip the participants with modern investigative domestic violence kits, to ensure that they are professional in the discharge of their duties.
It is also intended to make these officers more efficient in the discharge of their duties, since it has boosted their confidence.
The training, which is the first of its kind, received financial support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
COP Yeboah said the beneficiaries should justify the money that tax payers have invested in them by exhibiting hard work and competence in the work they will do.
He also advised them not to bring their personal issues in the discharge of their duties, as it would affect the quality of their work
He said survivors and victims should not be made to share in their challenges and that they should ensure that they leave their personal issues outside of the office and approach their work diligently.
“If you have issues with your husband or haven’t paid your ward’s school fees, don’t come and vent your anger on the poor victims and survivors. You have acquired a professional training and you must exhibit that.”
He advised them to share what they have learnt with their colleagues for the betterment of the country.
He said he was happy that they comported themselves and observed all rules regarding Covid-19 and that no one is going home with any disease.
C/Supt Owusua Kyeremeh, Director, Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) whose outfit is going to benefit from the training of these fifty officers also charged them to work hard to prove their worth.
She said the attitude they will exhibit will be the recipe for the others to sponsor the next set of students.
She, therefore, charged them to go out and be good ambassadors of the DTA.
On his part, the Country Director for UNFPA, Mr Edward Adeniyi Ojuolape, charged the beneficiaries to be more concerned about the girl-child, because they are the victims of a lot of domestic violence cases.
He said women, especially teenagers, are the ones who face lots of violence related issues, hence much attention should be given to them.
