Nana Asafua Kuma going through the traditional confinement process
It was a beautiful sight to behold when, finally, Poasi, a fishing community located in Sekondi, confined and outdoored Nana Asafua Kuma IV as the Poasi Stool Chief in a grand traditional and culture setting.
Poasi has had no chief following the demise of the then sitting Chief, Nana Asafua Kuma III, some eleven years ago.
As a result, the successful confinement, leading to the eventual outdooring of Nana Asafua Kuma IV as Chief of the fishing community last weekend, could not have come at a more appropriate time.
Amidst joy, drumming and dancing, Nana Asafua Kuma IV, known in private life as Mr. Appiah Kobina Bentil, was eventually outdoored after successfully going through the traditional confinement process.
In the Akan traditional setting, a chief has to undergo confinement for a period of one week before the eventual outdooring.
During this period, the chief is said to be taught traditions, rites and customs.
The Royal Akona Family of Poasi, which is the only family that nominates, confines and outdoors a chief for the stool, was led by its Ebusuapayin, to wit (Family Head), Kojo Mensah. Ebusuapayin Kojo Mensah presented the new chief to the community in a traditional manner amidst joy and ecstasy.
The outdooring of the new Poasi Chief brings to an end eleven years of the stool being vacant. The outdooring of Nana Asafua Kuma IV was done in strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
