Nana Kwame Frimpong Okotomene II, Chief of Yabi in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti region is standing trial before the Nkawie Circuit court over a charge of abetment of crime.
The chief is said to have instructed one of his subjects to inflict cutlass wounds on another person, one Kwaku Addai, from Atwima-Kwanwoma during a clash over a piece of land, which is a subject of litigation between the chief of Kwanwoma and that of Yabi, in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District.
Nana Frimpong Okotomene, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime, has been granted a GH¢50,000.00 bail with a surety by the Nkawie Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Johnson Abbey.
Nana Kwame Frimpong, a Kumasi based business man, known in private life as Mr. George Kwadwo Dankwa will reappear before the court on September 5, this year.
He was installed chief of Yabi on Monday March 25, 2019 having sworn the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to succeed Nana Kwame Amankwa who died in 1989.
The accused chief is a member of the Kyidom division of the Kumasi Traditional Council headed by the Akyempimhene of Kumasi.
The prosecution, led by Police Inspector Joseph Nyame, told the court that the complainant was a subject of Nana AmponsahAkwaa, chief of Atwima-Kwanwoma, while the accused is the chief of Yabi.
He said on June 10, this year, the complainant and three others were sent by the chief of Atwima-Kwanwoma to inspect a plot of land located between Kwanwoma and Yabi.
The prosecutor said when they arrived at the site they saw the accused, together with other people, weeding on the land.
The prosecution said a heated argument ensued between the two factions, resulting in exchange of vulgar and abusive language.
Inspector Nyame said in the heat of the exchanges, Nana Frimpong instructed one of his subjects to slash the head of the complainant, resulting in serious injuries.
Mr. Nyame said the complainant was rescued by some people who were then present and rushed to the hospital.
He said a report was subsequently lodged at the Abuakwa police who arrested the Yabi chief and charged him with the offence.
