The Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) says it has arrested all seven suspects involved in the murder of the Sogakope Assemblyman.
The suspects are Richard Adikyere, Stephen Adzibolo, Emmanuel Hedzro and Kofi Zotorvi. The others are Christian Zotorvi and Michael Sam Obed Agornu.
It would be recalled that at about 1am on March 1, 2020 five armed men robbed a house belonging to Mr Mawutor Adzahli Marcus, Assembly man at Old Ningo, murdered him and made away with a number of items including two motorbikes.
According to the Director General of Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP/Mr Issac Ken Yeboah, a bike stolen at the crime scene had a tracker which facilitated the location and identification of the bike and the subsequent arrest of the suspects.
“It would be recalled that during my first press briefing on my assumption of office as the head of the CID, I briefed you on the murder of the assembly man of Sogakope and the subsequent arrest of some persons who were in custody and that we were following other suspects.
“I am happy to state that by dint of hard work all the suspects in the Robbery and murder of the Assemblyman have been arrested.”
He said that all weapons which were used in the crime have been retrieved and the suspect would be arranged before court for further actions.
He said the leader of the gang, Richard Adikyere, during an interrogation admitted his involvement in that robbery and murder of Mr Mawutor at Sogakope on 1st March, 2020 and gave out the names of his accomplices and the role each person played.
Giving details of the suspects and the role each person played, Mr Yeboah said that Richard Adikyere, the leader of the gang and a 23 year mason, was the one who delivered the second shot to gun down the deceased with a pump action gun, while Stephen Adzibolo, who is a 29 year old mechanic, gave the first shot to the chest of the deceased when he tried to struggle with him. He also shot through the window to hit the baby with pellets lodged in the head.
He continued that Emmanuel Hedzro, a 25 year old motor rider, was the one who hatched the plan to rob the deceased for money and also informed Richard Adikyere to recruit men for the operation. He said this suspect was not at the scene but showed the house to his accomplices before the operation.
Mr Yeboah said that Kofi Zotorvi was the one who arranged and brought two in two weapons for the operation while Christian Zotorvi, a 30 year old farmer, was the one who was tasked to keep two weapons before and after the operation.
He continued that the remaining two, Michael Sam and Obed Agornu, aged 29 and 21 years respectively, were both recruited by suspect Stephen Adzibolo from Ashaiman to take part in the operation.
The Director General of CID said that indicated that the culprits admitted suspect Stephen Adzibolo, Michael Sam and Obed Agornu carried three cement blocks to break the main door and used same to break the safe, which contained money and suspect Richard Adikyere confessed to have deflated the tyres of three vehicles parked on the compound of the deceased to demobilise anybody from chasing them.
He also indicated that the act was a robbery and not contract killing, as was being circulated in the media when the incident happened.
