The Bantamahene, BaffourOwusuAmankwaatia VI has dissociated himself from the audio and videos trending on social media.
The said video and audio tapes are said to be “concocted out of malice” by enemies of the Ashanti Kingdom “to achieve their malicious agenda”.
A statement issued by OhenebaOfori, the Registrar of the Bantama Palace, stressed that it is a taboo in the Ashanti Kingdom for anybody to make mockery of issues involving Manhyia and Asantehene.
“It is against our customs and traditions to make mockery of issues involving Manhyia and Asantehene”, it said.
The statement also cautioned those behind the posting of the audio and video tapes on social media to desist from such unwarranted and barbaric acts.
On Wednesday July 22, 2020 the Asantehene, OtumfuoOsei Tutu II exercised restraint in a bid to destool the Bantamahene who is said to have trespassed on portions of the Kumasi Race Course land for the construction of shops without permission from the Asantehene.
It was said that the course of the Subin River in the area had also been diverted to make way for the purported construction.
Baffour OwusuA mankwatia VI was, therefore, summoned to the Manhyia Palace where the Asantehene reprimanded him during which faceoff Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI and his elders knelt down to beg the Asantehene for forgiveness to prevent a possible destoolment.
As a result, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II tempered justice with mercy and spared the former Chief Executive Officer of the Asante Kotoko F/C of destoolment and ordered that the said structures on the Race Course be demolished to restore the course of River Subin.
