The Youth Wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has outlined sixty achievements of the Akufo-Addo government with rippling positive impacts on the youth of the country.
The National Youth Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, addressed the fifth edition of the ‘Youth Must Know’ series in Kumasi yesterday to list those laurels.
According to Nana Boakye, the NPP government had introduced 60 life-changing and impactful youth beneficial policies and programmes that have benefitted Ghanaians enormously.
He also mentioned the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), recruitment of teachers, recruitment of nurses, recruitment of other health workers, recruitment of extension officers, and recruitment of environmental health officers and assistants.
According to Nana B, “NABCO: 100,000 young persons have been employed; Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has employed over 70,000 young people; recruitment of 8,872 teachers; recruitment of 1,445 non-teaching staff; recruitment of 54,000 nurses.”
He continued: “105,350 job creation in cocoa, 83.000 youth employed by Forestry Commission; 12,000 start-ups and small business trained; 3,000 provided with funding to expand their businesses in order to create jobs under the Presidential Business Support Programme, as well as Presidential Pitch: 40 young people given financial support, 460 jobs created.”
The National Youth Organiser further outlined the restoration of teacher and nursing trainees’ allowances, over 90,000 scholarships for the youth, and over 20,000 students trained under the Student Entrepreneurial Initiative rolled out by the NEIP.
Others included professional allowance for teachers, construction of 10 ultra-modern and multi-purpose youth centers with five thousand capacity, across the country by the NYA, were among other achievements the Youth Leader mentioned.
Nana B, at the ‘The Youth Must Know Series’, threw a challenge to the National Youth Wing and the Communications outfit of their main contender, the opposition National Democratic Congress, to, within a week, tell the specific youth-focused policies and programmes that they implemented in their eight years administration, and the impact it had in the lives of the youth of Ghana.
The Youth Must Know is a programme organised by the Youth Wing of the NPP to throw more lights on how the youth of Ghana have benefitted from the achievements of the Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia government.
According to the NPP, the Akufo-Addo administration can boast of 200 solid achievements in their less than four year’s administration, and would want the NDC to also tell Ghanaians what former President John Dramani Mahama did during his tenure as the President of Ghana.
He named some of these programmes as Free Senior High School (FSHS), which, he noted, had created 10,983 direct jobs and 43,900 indirect jobs.
He noted: “NDC cannot boast of even three factories that they built and operationalised to give the youth sustainable employment. The monumental failure of ‘Incompetent’ Mahama in the aspect of job creation is the result of the proliferation of associations of unemployed youth, like Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana, Unemployed Nurses Association etc. Today, these groups are no more, because of the massive jobs created by this government.”
The National Youth Organiser of the NPP further took the NDC to the cleaners, saying the sinister antics of the leadership of the opposition party to disenfranchise eligible SHS students by unduly obstructing them from registering to obtain voter’s ID cards in the ongoing mass registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC), is very irresponsible, demeaning and shameful.
“It is extremely reprehensible, the callousness of the NDC to want to send these innocent students outside campus to register, having in mind the COVID-19 risk and the threat it poses to the lives of these students. It is much clearer now that the NDC does not only wish for the COVID-19 cases to escalate, but they are working tirelessly to cause many deaths in the senior high schools. We call on parents and well-meaning Ghanaians to condemn the NDC and demand that they act in a much dignified and responsible manner,” he said.
Fighting back allegations that he had visited schools to campaign in the ongoing voters registration exercise, Henry Nana Boakye explained that he went to the schools with accreditation given to officers of political parties and observer groups by the EC to monitor the process.
“It is important to note that my actions did not in any way flout laid down rules and regulations on the process. I, therefore, entreat the general public to disregard the lies and propaganda from the camp of the NDC on this matter. They find comfort in creating needless trivialities and lame distortions just to distract the public, because they have no campaign message.
