Oli Best Road Safety Organisation (OBS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), which is engaged in a national road safety campaign, has donated 100 packs of tissue towels (tissue papers) and two gallons of hand sanitisers to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The gesture was to mark the 55th birthday anniversary of the Director, Mr. Richard Karikari, which fell on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, in Kumasi.
Mr. Karikari commended the Board and management of the National Insurance Commission (NIC) for introducing a uniformed motor insurance premium among all vehicle insurance companies in the country.
Hitherto, the premium on motor or vehicle insurance among insurance companies in the country varied, as every company had its own pricing.
He, however, admonished the NIC to put measures and mechanisms in place to detect fake insurance stickers in the system, in order to make the innovation meaningful.
The Oli Best Director noted that road safety, as an aspect of driving, involves so many things, including even the safety of DVLA staff and the numerous clients who throng their offices every day to register their vehicles or acquire a driver’s licenses.
The Board Chairman of OBS, ACP Mr. Kwaku Buah, who is also the Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, presented the items to the Regional Manager of the DVLA, Mr. Amos Abakah.
ACP Buah reiterated that there was nothing like a mistake in driving, and emphasised that any mistake in driving is a blunder.
The Ashanti Regional Manager of the Authority, Mr. Abakah, thanked the OBS for the gesture and said it was timely. He also advised the public to strictly adhere to the procedures in acquiring a driver’s license in the country, rather than resorting to middlemen, popularly known as ‘goro boys’, for driver’s licenses.
