Sixty two persons out of 66 confirmed cases in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality have reportedly recovered from coronavirus infection.
A statement issued by the Acting Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Paul Boateng, in the fifth Municipal COVID-19 Update said the number of active cases stands at four (4), as at last week Wednesday.
Dr. Yeboah, however, said all the confirmed cases are doing well and responding to treatment and that none of the four active cases is severely or critically ill.
He said 1,064 persons have so far been tested and that 155 laboratory results are pending.
The Municipal Director entreated all residents to strictly adhere to all the preventive measures because it is the only way of containing the spread of the virus in the municipality.
He assured that the health team and other stakeholders would work tirelessly to bring the situation under control now that schools have re-opened.
Dr. Yeboah urged schools and religious organisations in the municipality to ensure strict adherence to all preventive protocols. He also cautioned against stigmatisation and misinformation regarding COVID-19.
In another development, the Acting Ahafo Regional Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer and Nurse Manager, Goaso Municipal Government Hospital, Mrs. Stella Sefa, has confirmed the death of two persons, out of the 26 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the region
The Asymptomatic patients among them have been asked to self-isolate in their homes whilst those with symptoms have been quarantined and are receiving treatment at the COVID-19 health centres in the region.
Mrs Sefa, in an interview, urged the people to remain calm and report any unusual health condition at any nearby health facility for the diagnosis to receive the appropriate treatment.
Mrs. Sefa reminded the people to adhere to all the COVID-19 protocols to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Headmaster in charge of academics of the Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School in the Ahafo region, Mr Micheal Boamah, has confirmed that a final year student of the school has tested positive for COVID-19.
The male student reported to school feeling sick and was admitted as the school’s sickbay. His symptoms alerted health personnel who treated his case as a potential COVID-19 positive.
Mr Boamah said that the sample of the student, which was taken to the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) came back positive, and the student was accordingly isolated.
The Assistant Headmaster said that school authorities have instituted new measures to curb the spread of the virus on campuses, such as placing Veronica Buckets in front of every classroom and dormitory blocks, distributing hand sanitisers to students, teaching and non-teaching staff.
The services of the National Commission for Civic Education and the District Health Directorate have also been sought to help in the counselling and observing of the COVID-19 safety protocols.
There are unconfirmed reports that another student of Techimantia Presbyterian Senior High School has also tested positive for Coronavirus.
