A Member of the National Council of Elders of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Agnes Okudzeto, has called on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region to stop unnecessary criticism of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government.
They should rather make constructive criticism that would help motivate the government to accelerate the development of the region, and the country in general.
According to Mrs. Okudzeto, the NDC is feeding the people with wrong information with the aim of creating enmity for the government, but what they do not know is that they are rather creating a bad image for the region.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle in Ho, Madam Okudzeto said members of the opposition party were indulging in tribal politics, and that the deployment of soldiers along the eastern borders was not done in the Volta Region alone, but across the entire borders of the country to protect the citizenry against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Madam Okudzeto, who is also a former National First Vice Chairperson of the NPP, continued that President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP have nothing against the people of the Volta Region where she herself comes from, as the NDC is making the people to believe, stressing that the President would not stoop so low as to engage in tribal politics.
She observed that Nana Akufo-Addo had, so far, demonstrated quality leadership and would continue to pursue programmes and policies that would help transform the lives of the people. The NPP strong woman said chiefs in the region and other parts of the country are highly respected by the people, therefore, it would help save the image of the region if our chiefs, who are supposed not to engage in active politics, rein in young politicians whose actions and inactions were tarnishing the image of the entire region.
Madam Okudzeto, who is also the Chairperson of the NPP Resource Group in the region, pointed out that even with diverse political affiliations, Ghanaians still remain as one people with a common destiny.
According to her, President Akufo-Addo has, since assumption of office a little over three years ago, showed love towards all Ghanaians, including the people of the Volta Region.
She mentioned the free Senior School (SHS) policy, Planting for Food and Jobs, and Nation Builders Corps (NAPCO) among others, which were carefully designed to address the needs of the people, without ethnic and religious discrimination.
Madam Okudzeto stated that Volta Region remains special to the NPP, and that anytime the party comes to power, they execute development projects in the region, just as other regions, citing the reconstruction and asphalting of the Tema to Aflao, Abotoase-Asukwakwa-Dambai, Ho-Dzolokpuita and Ho town roads by the Kufuor administration.
President Nana Akufo-Addo, she noted, also continued to build on where former President Kufuor left by continuing with the eastern corridor road, Sokode-Ho dual carriage road, and Juapong-Volo-Adidome road, which is ongoing among others.
To her, the President had, over the years, demonstrated his love to all Ghanaians, and called on the people in the Volta Region to support the government.
“Nana Akufo-Addo, out of love, laid down his life for Ghanaians to ensure that the people lead happy lives by taking critical decisions in the general interest of all, this is a humble person, selfless, and determined to improve the general wellbeing of the people, therefore, needed support rather than deliberate acts to disrupt him,” she stressed.
