An Accra Circuit, presided over by His Honour Emmanuel Essandoh, has granted bail to one Brian Ibrahim Adam, alias Red, and remanded Solomon Azure nicknamed Baba Sulley, aka 2Pac, into police custody.
Red and 2pac were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, namely robbery, contrary to Section 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act29).
Presenting before the court, the Prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Ayengbo, stated that on June 2, 2020 at Lashibi in the Greater Region, the two did agree to act together with the common purpose to commit crime, to wit, robbery.
Delving into the particulars of the case, he indicated that on the said date of June 2, 2019, at celebrity Golf, Sakomono in the Greater Accra Region, Red and 2pac robbed Emmanuel Fosu Yeboah off his Daewoo Matiz taxi with registration No. GG 2486-18.
The Prosecutor said the complainant, Emmanuel, is a taxi driver and resides at Lashibi-Sakumono, while Brain Ibrahim Adams, first accused (A1), and Solomon Azure (A2) are unemployed and live respectively at Kumasi Airport Roundabout in the Ashanti Region and Agbogbloshie Yam-Market in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Prosecutor, the two alleged robbers met on March 2020 at Avenor Park in Accra and became friends, and had since been close.
Inspector Ayengbo told the court that 2Pac informed Red that he knows a man who is ready to pay a huge sum for a taxi.
At this information, on May 24, 2020, Red came to lodge with 2Pac and they hatched a plan to snatch taxi and sell.
As a result, on June 6, 2020 at about 11:40pm at Baatsona Total Filing Station, Red and 2Pac engaged the services of the complainant, Emmanuel, who was in charge of a Daewoo Matriz taxi to take them to Emef Estate, Lashibi.
2Pac sat at the back of the driver while Red sat in the front space, but on reaching a spot by the Celebrity Golf Park, 2Pac alerted the driver that they will alight, for which he stopped.
While Red remained seated in front, 2Pac alighted and walked to the driver as if he was going to pay the fare, but did otherwise.
He said 2Pac then opened the driver’s door, broke a bottle he was holding and stabbed the left shoulder of the driver severally, and pulled him out. Red then jumped behind the steering wheel and was joined by 2Pac, and they sped off.
A complaint was made to police and a medical report form was issued to him to attend hospital for treatment.
On June 3, 2020, at about 10:00am, a police patrol team intercepted the two alleged robbers in the above mentioned taxi at Pokuase Ayawaso Junction. A search conducted in the taxi revealed a knife and electrical wire at the back seat.
Red and 2Pac were arrested and handed over to Sakumono police for investigation.
In their investigation caution statement, they admitted to the offence and stated that they were on their way to hand over the taxi to one Nana and Didda.
Red pleaded guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with two sureties, one should be a public servant.
2Pac, however, pleaded not guilty with the explanation that he did not intentionally stab the complainant, but the incident was an accident.
