The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority, Mr. Vincent Yaw Frimpong Manu, who is vying for the Kwadaso parliamentary seat, has cautioned delegates not to be persuaded by local political gimmicks, propaganda and machinations.
Interacting with a section of Kwadaso delegates, the aspirant urged them to reshape the Kwadaso Constituency and bring back the unity, love and positive change by choosing a Member of Parliament (MP) who is truthful, humble, accountable, and one who sees it as an opportunity to serve and not an opportunity for self-aggrandisement, stressing that the quest for change is a serious business.
“It is not time to be cynical or look away, neither is it time for the highest bidder. It is time to identify one who is most prepared; has [a] track record of service to the constituency; knows the constituency and understands the constituents. It is time for experience in promoting community development, and it is time for making impact,” he said.
Mr. Frimpong Manu’s admonition comes on the premises that some aspirants are claiming to be the President’s candidate and have been promised ministerial positions.
He debunked those claims stressing that the prerogative to appoint one to a ministerial position resides with the President, who would not endorse a particular candidate.
Mr. Vincent Frimpong Manu stressed that the Kwadaso Constituency needs a positive and progressive change that must reflect on delegates and the constituents.
Mr. Manu, who is making his second bid for the seat, gave the assurance to provide hope, progress, development, peace and unity, which the constituents needed most in the face of the current despair.
The aspirant said the enthusiasm of delegates championing his cause should correct the current state of affairs of despair, disunity, acrimony, extremely bad road network, joblessness, lack of accountability, poor leadership, lack of true representation at Kwadaso, and disappointing contribution to the development of the Parliament of Ghana.
Manu, who is highly tipped to annex the Kwadaso seat, has, therefore, reminded delegates of the call to collectively work and effect change as the current MP has been, abysmal and disappointing, stressing that the time for the delegates to answer to the call was now.
He reminded the delegates to effect a change which occurred over the years and occasioned the leadership Hon. Hilda Addo to Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and to the incumbent MP, Dr. Samiu Nuamah, and which is fulfilling and not a change with regrets.
He stressed: “A change that will not multiply disillusionment; a change that will not promote people’s personal interests, but a change that provides true leadership, true representation, and true service per servant leadership.”
According to him, delegates needs have to be met, and the constituents need jobs, good roads, proper sanitation, good local schools and thriving communities. “We have to elect one who does not see this as an opportunity of title and a chance to stay in Parliament for law making alone, but an opportunity to influence and work closely with the Municipal Assembly to facilitate such development projects,” he said.
The delegates, led by one Alfred Brobbey, believe the incumbent MP has very little to show for the three plus years he has occupied the parliamentary seat.
They described aspirant Manu as hard working and very functional in party activities towards the general development of the constituency.
According to Brobbey, supporting the candidature of Manu is to avoid a situation where party executives keep changing parliamentary candidates at their whim and caprices.
He noted that over the years since the constituency was carved out of the Bantama Constituency in 2004, the party hierarchy in the constituency chooses parliamentary candidates for the consideration of delegates, only to replace him with another candidate during elections, thus depriving them of second terms and experienced law makers.
Mr. Manu has, since announcing his bid, facilitated projects, including the construction of a multi-purpose Community Development Centre, comprising Astroturf, Community Library and Youth Development Training Centre, at Ohwimase M/A Basic School in the Kwadaso Constituency.
Other projects earmarked for different communities in the constituency include a football pitch, markets, street lights, patching and reshaping of selected roads.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has suspended the June 20 parliamentary primaries in the Kwadaso constituency following pending issues with the delegates’ album.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party has, however, cleared Vincent Frimpong Manu, Dr. S. K. Nuamah and Dr. Kingsley Nyarko to contest the Kwadaso NPP primary at a later date after the album issue is resolved
