Apostle Kwabena Adjei, the man whose attack of the Electoral Commission (EC) head, Jean Mensa, and went viral on social media, was arrested in the middle of an interview with an Accra based radio station, Hot FM, yesterday, and remanded into custody after appearing before an Accra Circuit Court.
He has been charged with threat of death contrary to Section 75 of the Criminal Code and other Offences Act, (Act 29) of 1960, offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace contrary to section 207(1) of criminal and other offences Act (ACT 29) of 1960, and possessing narcotic drugs contrary to Section 2(1) of PNDC Law 236/90.
According to the Prosecutor, D/SGT Frederick Sarpong, Apostle Kwabena Adjei, on June 4, with the intent to put Jean Mensah into fear of death, did threaten to kill her. “…without lawful authority, you uttered certain abusive words, to wit: You are stupid woman, foolish woman, senseless Akufo-Addo girl, to the annoyance of Mrs Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, with the intent to provoke the breach of peace or whereby a breach of the peace is likely to be occasioned, did have in your possession a quantity of narcotic drugs without lawful authority,” the Prosecutor told the court.
Prior to his arrest yesterday, he was seen in a video clip spewing unprintable words against the EC Chair and the Akyem tribe. He also alleged in the video that the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, insulted his own party people to him.
Kennedy Agyapong, who says he sees ‘money and fighting’ whenever he dreams, went on his television station on Monday to dispute the claim.
“If you access his agenda, he’s part of the NDC plan to disgrace President Akufo-Addo. First, that pastor should be arrested. They should have arrested him yesterday. If he is a man, he should avail himself.
“He claimed I said Ewes and Gas should be killed so I was charged with treason, how about his statement that he will kill Jean Mensa? What should we do to him? Are you sure he’s a man of God? How much did NDC pay him to do these kinds of things?
“They claim they have more men in the security agencies than NPP has so they’ll get their people to support them whenever there is a riot. I want to tell them that Ghanaians are not fools, they consider the condition of service and do a comparison,” he fumed with rage.
“We also have the men, let them make a mistake and try anything. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. The same way they beat Gabby and others to the extent of damaging someone’s eyes, if this pastor is a man, let him lead the demonstration that day, and he will see that we have the men.
“If you’re a man, Owusu Agyei, try. If he jokes, he will never step foot in his church. I challenge him, I dare him! If he is a man, he should try. He won’t step foot in his church again… You’ll die before Jean Mensa…,” he said.
