The Sunyani West Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has stepped up efforts to enforce the use of nose masks in the municipality to prevent the possible spread of the Coronavirus.
The move comes after the Jaman North District confirmed one positive case of the virus, causing fear among residents in the region.
The COVID-19 Rapid Response Team in the Sunyani West Municipality has commenced strict enforcement the use of nose masks and social distancing as preventive measures.
A total of 1,000 nose masks have been distributed to residents who do not have any in Odomase, the capital, and Fiapre.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sunyani West, Mr. Martin Obeng, said the use of the nose mask is now compulsory in the municipality.
He advised residents to practice the social distancing rule and avoid contact with each other, where they can be easily infected by a carrier of the virus.
Mr. Obeng reminded residents to continue to adhere to all the COVID-19 protocols, which include regular hand washing under running water for 20 minutes, frequent use of sanitisers, avoid touching their face, nose and close contact with other persons.
Residents of Odumase and Fiapre who received the nose masks from the Assembly thanked the MCE and government.
Mr. Obeng commended market women and other residents who were already using the nose mask for protection, and urged them to continue the practice till the pandemic is over.
The items distributed were received from the Ministry of Local Government through the Bono Regional Co-Coordinating Council.
They include 2,000 nose masks, five boxes of sanitisers, 10 infrared thermometer guns, one bale of nose mask material, and 70 dustbins.
Tain District
In the Tain District, all weekly marketing activities have been banned following directives from the Bono Regional Security Council (RESEC). The move is part of measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 in the region.
The temporary closure of the markets on market days in the district is to ensure strict adherence to social distancing, as well as respecting the ban on social gatherings, in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
However, traders are encouraged to sell every day, and buyers are advised also to buy every day so that no large crowds are recorded in the markets, as has always been the case.
The District Assembly, in its quest to avert the spread of the COVID-19 disease, has put in place numerous measures such as the supply of veronica buckets and other sanitary items to be placed at vantage points in the district, and disinfection of markets and other public places.
The District Chief Executive, Madam Charity Akua Foriwaa Dwommoh, appealed to the general public to corporate with the Assembly to help curb the novel Coronavirus disease in the district.
