The Odikro of Gomoa Ekwamkrom, Nana Kobina Ekwam X, has taken away the Omankrado title from the Twidan Family of Ekwamkrom with immediate effect. Subsequently, Nana Kofi Adu V, also known in private life as Kwame Okyere, who hails from the Twidan Family and held the position of Omankrado, has been removed.
The removal of the Omankrado title from the Twidan Family and the sacking of Nana Kofi Adu as the Omankrado were contained in a letter signed and issued by Nana Ekwam X.
Explaining the rationale behind the marching orders issued to the family, Nana Ekwam X alleged: “He flaunted himself as the Regent of Ekwamkrom with impunity, and disregarded the presence and capacity of the substantive Chief (Odikro).”
The letter further alleged that he (Nana Kofi Adu V ) himself held and beat a gong-gong on May 14, 2019, when he knows it is prohibited of an Omankrado by custom and tradition.
The letter, which contained three other reasons, was copied to the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, the Standing Committee of the Traditional Council, and the media.
Giving a brief history about how the Twidan Family became holders of the Omankrado title, Nana Ekwam X explained that the title was given by virtue of friendship in 1967 during the reign of Nana Ekwam Vll.
He said subsequent chiefs compromised “because of the person of Nana Kofi Adu III (Kobina Mintah) and his Ebusuapanyin whose credibility and integrity could not be downplayed at the time.”
However, the Odikro alleged that Nana Kofi Adu V failed to emulate the good attributes of his predecessors and engaged in what the Odikro termed in his letter as “unprintable acts.”
“These reasons, coupled with the fact that he, Nana Kofi Adu V, demonstrated acts of taking over the Odikro Stool after the demise of my predecessor, Nana Kweku Ekwam IX, I cannot have him as the Omankrado to whom I will have to entrust the town in my absence,” the statement said.
When contacted for his reaction, the Twidan Ebusuapanyin, Kofi Manko, acknowledged receipt of the Odikro’s letter that sought to take away the Omankrado title from his family.
He, however, posited that the Twidan Family continued to recognise Nana Kofi Adu as the Omankrado, because, to the family, he, Kofi Adu, had not done anything wrong to warrant his sacking.
Efforts made to contact Nana Kofi Adu for his side of the issue proved futile.
