Hostilities between supporters of the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu, and an aspirant, Kwasi Amofa-Agyemang, began last Saturday night when they clashed near the Yeguaa Hotel in Bekwai.
Yaw Boro, Andy Cole and Moro from the camp of the MP reportedly attacked one Francis Amoako, a polling station executive and a worker of the National health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Bekwai, and Katakyie Kwame Opoku Agyemang, an electoral area coordinator, both sympathisers of Lawyer Amofa-Agyemang, without any provocation while they were hanging out near the hotel.
Last Saturday’s attack came on the heels of threats and intimidation of persons suspected to be followers of Lawyer Amofa by the attackers, who parade the streets of Bekwai as National Security operatives.
They claim Amoako and Katakyie have been going round the constituency insulting the Member of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Katakyie confided in The Chronicle that three weeks ago, he lodged a complaint with the Bekwai police for threats on his life.
As a result, Amoako has also lodged a complaint of assault at the Bekwai police station, pending investigations.
At the time of filing this report on Sunday afternoon, no arrest had been made regarding last Saturday night’s alleged attack.
