The Board Chairman of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Madam Francisca Oteng-Mensah, has expressed concern over the delay in the construction of a youth resource centre for the Volta Region at Adaklu-Tsrefe, near Ho.
According to her, out of the ten centres being constructed throughout the country, that of the Volta Region has remained a challenge, and promised to investigate and take immediate action to address the cause of the delay.
She noted that construction of the centre should have been completed at the end of this year, but looking at the work done so far by the contractor, WIilkando Construction, the deadline cannot be met.
Speaking to the media at Adaklu-Tsrefe after an inspection of the project to access the level of work, Madam Oteng-Mensah continued that work done so far was not encouraging, and that funds had been released to the contractor who ought to have done better.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Mr. Sylvester Matthew Tetteh, said work on the resource centers in the rest of the regions have almost been completed. He was sure that by the end of the year, all the projects would have been handed over to his outfit.
The Director of Technical Projects at the NYA, Mr. Theodor Anaman Mensah, said the Volta Region project, and similar projects in the rest of the regions, upon completion, would have facilities such as Information Communication Technology (ICT) centers, counselling offices, restaurants, changing rooms, and tennis courts among others.
The contractor working on the Volta Region Youth Resource Center, Togbe Gbeworza, however, gave the assurance that he would be able to complete work on time, indicating that 75 percent of work had already been done.
