Scores of angry youth of Dodowa are reportedly engaged in exchange of gun shots with some land guards whose activities have posed threats to indigenes.
The ring leader of the land guards, whose name was given as Manasseh and a resident of Madina, according to strings of information The Chronicle gathered from sources at Dodowa, often mobilised his ‘boys’ to a hideout at Ayikuma, a suburb of Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District, to plot against persons they suspected were threats to their criminal activities.Other times, the land guards assaulted developers.
On his way to Ayikuma, Sunday morning to meet his team of land guards, Manasseh, The Chronicle’s sources alleged, spotted a stool member of the Wedekum family, the custodian of some lands the land guards have been alleged to have captured.
“Cruising in his sleek Mercedes Benz, Manasseh struck Sowah on his blindside, sending Sowah on the ground. When he managed to gather himself up and saw the car, Sowah went to Dodowa to mobilise some of the town boys, entered the hideout of Azira in the forest at the foot of the Larteh mountain and the next sound we heard were series of gunshots,” the sources narrated.
The sources said they later saw thick smoke billowing from the direction of the gunshots and when a large crowd of the Ayikuma and Dodowa residents dashed to the scene, they saw Manasseh’s sleek Mercedes Benz on fire.
The sources said they did not spot any blood traces in the forest to suggest that somebody was caught by the bullets during the exchange of fire.
When he was reached on the telephone, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Katso, Dodowa District Police Commander, confirmed the clash to The Chronicle.
He said the Dodowa Fire Service personnel were called in to douse the blazing Mercedes Benz.
DSP Katso said the land guards’ kingpin and his ‘boys’ escaped “and we (police) cannot tell whether or not anybody sustained gun wounds.
“The police have taken over the matter and we are inviting all the boys involved in the criminal act in the forest. Sowah, who was alleged to have been attacked first by Manasseh, has been invited by the police to help us in our preliminary investigation into the deadly clash today (Sunday),” DSP Katso explained.
