Two Military Officers have reportedly seized the camera of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana Journalist Association, Mr. Kingsley E. Hope after he took shot of a barricaded street at the Central Business District (Adum) in Kumasi. The incident happened around Access Bank near the defunct Pioneer offices.
Mr. Kingsley E. Hope, confirmed to The Chronicle via phone that his camera was indeed seized after he took a picture of the barricaded road. According to him, he was accosted when he was leaving the scene “because he had taken pictures of the military officers who were performing their duties.”
Hope who is also the Ashanti Regional Editor of The Ghanaian Times further told The Chronicle that though he denied taking pictures of the officers, they would not listen to him and went ahead to seize the camera.
The poor journalist said he swiftly contacted the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Command, but the said officers were still adamant in releasing the camera. According to him, he even followed them all the way to the barracks, but he was asked to come for the camera tomorrow.
Reached on phone, the Commanding officer of the Fourth Battalion, Lt. Colonel Preprah told The Chronicle that he was not aware about development. According to him, he would get touch with the Military Intelligence tomorrow morning to collect the camera and give it back to Kinsley Hope. He maintained that no soldier has the right to seize the camera of a journalist.
