The Manwerehene of the Ahanta Traditional Area and Chief of Akatakyi, Nana Bozza IX, has joined the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19), reminding his subjects that the virus was deadly and unforgivable once one contracted.
For this reason, they should take steps to prevent the spread of the virus by strictly adhering and observing the precautionary measures introduced by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and government.
“The virus is real; killing people, and I do not want any of my subjects to be a casualty to the deadly virus. That is why I have come to you to remind you to stay away from contracting the deadly virus.”
In order to help his subjects strictly observe the precautionary measures, Nana Bozza has presented four Veronica buckets, tissues, hand sanitisers and liquid soaps to the Akatakyie community at a short ceremony on Tuesday.
Akatakyi is a small village located in the Ahanta West Municipality with a population of less than hundred.
The main occupation of the villagers is farming, and considering the low number of people who make up the village, the Veronica buckets have been placed at four vantage points, including the main lorry station, to serve everyone.
Presenting the items to the community, Manwerehene Nana Bozza told his subjects that as their Chief, he could not sit unconcerned, fold his arms and pretend to care less about the fight against the COVID-19.
It was in that direction he had joined the COVID-19 fight by way of presenting the items for use by the community.
He said, though the items do not cure the virus, it however was a means to aid the community stay away from the disease.
He further implored the community to take good care of the items and adhere strictly to hand washing daily.
Nana Bozza, then took the opportunity to demonstrate to his subjects how hand washing was properly done.
Ebusuapayin Bosompra, an elder of the village who received the items, expressed the community’s gratitude to the chief for the gesture.
Bosompra said for the chief to present the items to the community goes to tell a story that “our chief is caring and thinks first about us his subjects.
He said, mostly, when they listen to radio, it was political figures presenting items to hospitals to help in the fight against the Covid-19, so for their chief to be among figures to present the items to the community, spoke volumes of the kind of traditional leader he is.
