The vigilance of some youth of Ada East has resulted in the quarantining of a Nigerian national by the health authorities who are monitoring the covid-19 suspect if he will show any symptoms.
The Nigerian’s demeanour and accent gave him out at Kasseh, where he made a stop over from Lagos, to buy some foodstuffs.
Comfort Doeyo Ghansah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ada East, told The Chronicle at her residence, Big Ada, that the Nigerian national was spotted at the Kasseh market on Saturday and during interrogation by a section of the youth, he confidently explained that he was travelling from Lagos to Accra.
“I was shocked when he said he could go through the land borders from Nigeria, Cotonou, Lome and Aflao. We are all neighbouring countries battling with the COVID-19 pandemic so the youth, immediately, took him to the Divisional Police Command who also handed him to the health authorities for its expertise in handling Coronavirus cases,” the MP explained.
The health authorities, Comfort Doeyo Ghansah was confident, would keep the Nigerian national until after the 14 days when, possibly, he would be returned to his Fatherland.
She lauded the youth for their vigilance and continued to encourage her people to keep maintaining physical distancing, good personal hygiene and staying at home as directed by President Akufo-Addo as measures to slow the transmission of the virus.
Besides, she said she had secured funds for the completion of an abandoned health centre in the district, as an isolation center.
“I am in constant touch with the Assembly in all that I’m doing for the people. And I must commend and continue to encourage the Assembly members for intensifying sensitisation in all the communities,” she said.
She has, through the Assembly members, distributed over 300 hand washing receptacles and cleansing detergents and is still distributing more to her communities. So that the fight against the virus does not fall lax, she said: “I have instructed my party (NDC) members to stay away from distributing the materials. I want the Assembly members to be at the forefront and so none of the receptacles or items I am giving to the communities has my picture. This is not the time for politics…our common political enemy, at the moment, is COVID-19.”
The MP was thankful to the traditional authorities in her district for also positioning their local security personnel at the beaches and island communities to tighten movements. “We are all looking forward to that day when this pandemic will be history in Ghana. And we can all do that by adhering to the President’s directives,” she advised.
