The Kumasi Technical University has invented and outdoored a foot-operated hand washing machine to help contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Inj. Nana Osei Owusu Achaw during the outdooring ceremony on Thursday called for support to produce the machine in large quantities for distribution to educational institutions.
Dr. Abena Obiri Yeboah, Senior lecturer of the Civil Engineering department and Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, said the production of the machine would depend on the availability of raw materials on the local market, which is currently not dependable because of the imposition of the lockdown and restrictions on movement of the public.
Dr. Charles Obeng Sarpong, Public Relations Officer of KsTU said since the advent of the Coronavirus pandemic, the university has deemed it appropriate to contribute its quota in combating the disease.
Early last month, KsTU produced and distributed over 1,000 bottles of hand sanitisers and educational materials to members of the University community as its contribution towards the fight against COVID-19.
KSTU has since created an Emergency Response Team (ERT), which is chaired by the Vice Chancellor to address concerns of the University community.
