The Volta Region has started spraying 75 markets and lorry stations to disinfect these public places as a control measure against the spread of the Coronavirus (CONVID-19).
The exercise, which started at 5am and was expected to end at 2pm, however, some of the districts not starting at the scheduled time due to natural occurrences such as heavy rains.
The North Dayi District Assembly smoothly started the exercise on time, and was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Edmond Kudjoh Atta.
The exercise was to disinfect the various markets in the district, including the surroundings of all stores along the principal streets of major towns and lorry parks, with the support of staff of Zoomlion, and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), as well as assembly members.
The major markets in the North Dayi District, which benefitted from the exercise, include those of Anfoega, Vakpo-Dunyo and Wusuta.
The DCE expressed satisfaction with the exercise while addressing the media, saying the team members who carried out the exercise, were committed to ensuring that quality work was done to achieve the desired impact.
Mr. Attah also commended residents in the district for their support and cooperation since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in the country, stressing that all the items provided by the Local Government Ministry to the Assembly, such as Veronica buckets, numbering 20, 120 pieces of tissue paper, sanitisers and 20 buckets for collection of stagnant water in the communities were effectively utilised.
He said prior to the fumigation exercise, the Assembly embarked on intensive education, led by him (DCE), to educate traditional rulers in the district on the effects, symptoms and preventive methods, which enabled the chiefs to also educate their subjects on the need to abide the safety measures put in place by the health authorities.
Mr. Attah said the public emergency response team continued to hold review meetings to evaluate all the measures put in place, adding that a sensitisation workshop was organised for health workers in the district to build their capacity on COVID-19 related issues.
The North Dayi DCE further said the Public Health Emergency Response Management Team (PHERMT) that he chaired charged the assembly members to work closely with the various traditional rulers to explain to citizens who have visited their relations in the communities from last Saturday and Sunday to isolate themselves for at least two weeks, and to even encourage them to undergo mandatory test.
