Users of the ports have been urged to adhere strictly to measures put in place by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19)) pandemic
The outgoing Port Security Manager (PSM) of the Tema Port, Col Joseph Malik Punamane, made the appeal at a farewell meeting organised by the management of the Tema Port.
Col Punamane, who was appointed the PSM since November 2017, stated that the port, as a frontier, is expected to receive vessels from across the world.
As such, it is mandatory for the port community to take the safety precautions instituted by the authority with all the seriousness, he stated
He expressed gratitude to his superiors for the opportunity given him to serve at the port, and extended same to the board, management, staff of GPHA and the port community for their acceptance and support offered him during his tenure as the Security Manager.
The Acting Director of the Port, Mrs Sandra Opoku, on behalf of the management and staff, expressed appreciation for his hard work and dedication to duty, citing numerous occasions when the army officer acted swiftly to forestall disasters.
Other members of the port team present shared their fond experiences whilst working together, and wished him well in his subsequent appointments.
Col Kwabiah from the General Headquarters in Burma Camp has since taken over as the new Port Security Manager of the Tema Port.
