From Samuel Agbewode, Sogakope
The Paramount Chief of Tefle traditional area, Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza VIII, has called on the leadership of the EP of Church to identify problems which are impeding the growth of the church and try to address them.
The Tefle Paramount chief noted that though the church was founded in 1847, leadership crisis and spiritual retrogressions had affected its growth and called on the leadership to address these setbacks, for the church to take its rightful position in the Ghanaian society.
Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza was speaking at the 4th South Volta Presbytery Synod of the EP Church at Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region recently.
It was under the theme: “Breaking New Ground; Now is Our Turn”.
The paramount chief noted that the theme chosen for the Synod was a clear manifestation that the church was in crisis, which problem must be examined and addressed.
He continued that in churches where leadership problems exist, the church would definitely not grow. He advised the church to stop appointing people who don’t share in the church’s principles and ideology into leadership positions.
Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza also charged the church leaders to show a high level of commitment to the work of God by preaching God’s words to the people.
“The Pastors should use the word of God to break new grounds, just as lawyers would also use the law to win cases brought before them,” he said, adding that leaders of churches should be good listeners and sacrifice enough for the propagation of the gospel, which would help build a healthy Christian society.
“You see, God is a spirit and nobody has seen him before, but people feel God’s presence in their lives regularly”.
The Paramount Chief did not also understand why evil things are on the ascendency in the country, now that churches are springing up. To him, therefore, Christendom has failed the nation.
Togbe Dugbaza said it is rather very unfortunate that chiefs who are the custodians of the land and tradition are being regarded by many as idol worshipers, a development, which he said, amuses him.
