The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) circuit court has adjourned the case involving 13 members of the Pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) Delta Force group who invaded the Ashanti regional coordinating council and manhandled the security liaison officer to June 15, 2017.
The decision by the court, presided over by Her Lordship Mary Senkyere, was preceded by the plea of prosecutor ACP Okyere-Yeboah, who prayed the court to adjourn the case.
According to him, the Attorney General came for the docket last month and has not returned it, hence the court should extend the date.
Consequently, the judge adjourned the case to June 15, 2017.
The 13 members; namely Kwadwo Fosu Bamba (aka Kwadwo Bamba), Awal Sadat Abubakar, Abubakar Sadiq Abuhammed, Jamil Issa, Hamza Mohammed, Salu Issahak, Akwasi Owusu, Kwabena Owusu, Kofi Kyei, Agya Boadi, Salu Yussif, Yussif Salu and Kwaku Awotwe are standing trial on charges of assaulting a public officer, conspiracy to commit crime and rioting.
In an interview with counsel for the Delta Force members, Mr. Mathew Appiah, he noted that they are waiting for the AG to submit the case to court, then they will start the entire case.
In a remark, he told the media that they are ever ready to defend their clients.
On March 24, 2017, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, (RCC) was thrown into state of disarray when members of the Delta Force (DF) besieged the place and attacked the then newly-elected security coordinator for Ashanti region.
The rambo-style attack saw the security coordinator, Mr George Adjei, being thrown out of the window by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) affiliated vigilante group.
Delta Force members claimed the embattled security coordinator is an alien and did not partake in the electioneering campaign of 2016 and, therefore, must be relieved of his post.
Running riot, they smashed windows and doors, with a Delta Force member sustaining a deep cut in the attack.
Mr. Emmanuel Fosu, a spokesperson for the group, said the members of the Delta Force had presented two petitions to the Ashanti Regional Minister, following the appointment of Mr Adjei, but all their pleas had been ignored by authorities.
