The Juaso District Hospital in the Asante Akim South District, can now boast of a standardised Emergency Complex, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Benedictus Kedzin Akpi, has disclosed.
He said the complex will enhance effective accident and emergency medical services delivery at the facility.
He pointed out that the hospital receives hundreds of vehicular and motor accident patients annually, since it is sited on a major highway, yet the conditions under which they are admitted and treated has not been the best.
Dr. Akpi said the hospital recorded 97 separate accident cases, involving hundreds of passengers last year.
According to him, as at the end of the first quarter this year, the facility had recorded 17 cases. The Medical Superintendent observed that the rate of road-related accidents and other medical emergencies that are reported to the facility, demanded efficient and more proactive means of accommodating and treating victims and patients who seek healthcare at the hospital.
Dr. Akpi disclosed that until 2015, the hospital had no independent emergency unit, as health
personnel responded to emergency cases in a small corner of the already over-crowded out-patients-department (OPD) with poor equipment.
He revealed that in 2015, a philanthropist and a native of Juaso domiciled abroad, Odeneho Lawyer Kyeremateng, was touched by the poor conditions under which the then accident unit operated, and constructed a befitting emergency block for the hospital, which is duly furnished,
and equipped up to the standard of a High Dependancy Unit (HDU), and subsequently christened Odeneho Kyeremateng Emergency Centre after the benefactor.
He said, upon becoming the head of the hospital later the same year, he (Dr. Akpi) and his management team resolved to make the facility operational in the face of harsh financial conditions.
The Medical Superintendent commended Lawyer Odeneho Kyeremateng for his goodwill towards the welfare of the hospital, and the people of Asante Akim and Ghana, and also called on other wealthy individuals to emulate Lawyer’s kind gesture, by supporting the hospital.
