Mr. Isaac Nsiah Edwards, Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Education, has commended government for expressing the commitment to implement a free Senior High School policy despite numerous challenges confronting the sector.
He said the huge challenges of access, quality and equity which confronted child education necessitated the holistic involvement and engagement of all stakeholders including the government, church, parents, students and teachers.
Mr Nsiah Edwards was speaking at the maiden Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Dormaa Ahenkro Municipal Assembly Junior High School (JHS).
The event was under the theme: “Investing in Education of Our Children, The Role of Stakeholders”, and it was attended by chiefs, heads of educational institutions, students and members of the public.
He called for the provision of better remuneration for teachers, school infrastructure development, and teaching and learning aids to make government’s stated goals in education achievable.
The Director gave the assurance that in spite of the Directorate’s limitations, it would continue to intensify monitoring and supervision to ensure that effective learning and teaching take place in schools.
He expressed his outfit’s determination to implement government policies to ensure quality education delivery in the Municipality.
“Proper investment in education is the only means children can be assisted to fit into the society to perpetuate the norms and aspirations of that society. Education remains the only available option to nurture and develop the creative potential in children”, he said.
He said the Directorate has instituted various policies and initiatives such as ‘Reading Hour’, ‘Operation Say No To Examination Malpractice’, ‘Operation Go To School and Go and Read’, Inter – School Reading and Quiz Competition among other interventions to guarantee and ensure value for money in the investment stakeholders are making in education.
Mr Nsiah Edwards said there is the need for parents to complement teacher’s effort by taking serious interest in their ward’s education in assisting them with homework, ensuring prompt payment of school levies, providing support material such as school uniforms, books, pencils and pens, proper feeding, and participating regularly in PTA meetings etc.
He urged teachers to play useful roles, be hardworking, punctual, stay devoted to professional responsibilities in order to add value to the children and be proactive in forming the character of children under their care.
The Director called on the church to continue to partner with the schools in developing the infrastructural needs of the school to augment government’s effort in providing quality education, and inculcate desirable moral standards in students.
