A former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair, says he is ready to use his experience to support the President Akufo-Addo-led government to succeed.
To him, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has great vision for the future of Ghana,” adding that whoever got close to the President, would know how passionate he is to developing the country.
The former UK Prime Minister made pledge when he paid a courtesy call on the President at the Flagstaff House yesterday.
The former British premier is in Ghana on the invitation of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to give a lecture on democracy.
In a short media briefing, which followed dining with the President at the Flagstaff House, the former PM thanked the President, and by extension the people of Ghana, for the ‘nice reception’ given him.
“This is an important moment for the country. You come at a time of great expectation as you assume this great responsibility of office, and as is very apparent when anyone spends time with you, they realise you are someone who has the interest of the country at heart, and the right spirit with which to approach challenges.
“So, I know the challenges are formidable. But the work now is we discussing how to use the experiences of my time in office to do what I can to help countries in the process of change and development, and our initiative in eight different countries in Africa today.
“We just focus on one thing, and that is helping countries deliver their priorities for the people. We do it in a completely non-partisan, non-political way, because if the countries can develop, and its people prosper, I think it’s not just for the country, but it is good for Africa, and it is good for the world,” he told the President.
He reminded the President of his responsibility, and the fact that he has to deliver to expectations, citing that there are great opportunities at his office, which, when utilised well, would help the country develop.
On his part, President Nana Akufo-Addo also thanked Mr Tony Blair, who first visited as PM about 10 years ago, but now as a former PM.
