From Richard Owusu-Akyaw, Kumasi
The Moderator of International Council of Churches and Ministers of Great Britain, Archbishop Samuel Richard Addae, has said self-made pastors, prophets and evangelists are bringing the Kingdom of God into disrepute.
He decried the situation where by men of God seize the media and other platforms to hurl insults at perceived opponents, declaring that ‘fire for fire’ muddies the kingdom of God, and is unacceptable and totally out of the scriptures.
Speaking at the 31st Annual Holy Convocation, where 110 pastors out of 112 were ordained in Kumasi, after one year training at the Shiloh Bible Training Centre for Pastors (SBTCP), Archbishop Addae cautioned: “The Kingdom is not a competition or for showing spiritual prowess. It is simply a race against sin, that is: Pride, envy, poverty, selfishness, wickedness, immorality and all forms of worldly pleasures.”
He urged the graduands to regard their profession as a vocation and not just a job, reminding them to focus on seeking lost people, have concern for their welfare, and lead them to the cross.
Archbishop Addae also disclosed that 71.2% of the Ghanaian population is Christian, but there are few Christian mentors to share the Gospel with those who desire Jesus.
The other deficit is that they do not have Bibles and Christian literature to read. “The harvest is plentiful, and it is pitiful that the workforce is few,” he noted.
He continued that God needs more prayerful people as labourers to play their part in the field, stressing that the church cannot be complacent.
The Prelate, who is the General Overseer of Shiloh United Church, emphasised that messages delivered from the pulpit should be geared towards changing lives from inside-out for others to witness, and not necessarily be focused on materialism and prosperity.
“Having intimacy with the Saviour Jesus Christ goes beyond financial gains or material acquisition,” he said.
