From Sebastian R. Freiku, Kumasi.
Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, a former Ashanti Regional Deputy Minister under the Kufuor administration, has been confirmed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
He thus takes his turn as the 25th Mayor of Kumasi, succeeding Mr. Kojo Bonsu, who resigned last July, after the Kumasi Traditional Council agitated for his removal from office for gross misconduct.
Mr. Serebour Quaicoe, Regional Electoral Officer, declared Osei Assibey duly appointed, after the election last Friday.

Osei Assibey polled 132 of the 133 valid votes cast by the 134-member house last Friday to approve his appointment by the President for the position.
The 99.2% feat is acclaimed as unprecedented in the history of the KMA, a clear indication of the acceptance of the President’s choice.
Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, in his acceptance speech, touched on peace building, governance and diplomacy, as he strives to restore sanity into one of Ghana’s chaotic assemblies. He called for the strengthening of the various sub-metros, and tackling Kumasi’s sanitation and waste management menace.
An elated Osei Assibey Antwi, who is expected to deliver his first sessional address to the assembly on Friday, promised to restore the dignity of Kumasi market women, especially those who sell on various pavements in the city.
He assured them of a dignified arena for them to ply their trade, and work with all stakeholders to ensure the completion of the Kejetia project and other satellite markets.
Osei Antwi Antwi’s confirmation ceremony was graced by the Amoamanghene, Nana Agyenim Boateng I, and Nana Akwasi Agyeman, the Ashanti royal who had held the mayorship of Kumasi for 23 years under various governments.
The former KMA head served as Mayor of Kumasi under the National Redemption Council (NRC) through Supreme Military Council (SMC) and People’s National Party (PNP) to the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) thus becoming the longest serving KMA boss.
Nana Akwasi Agyeman, also known as Okumkom, has commended the President for the appointment of Osei Assibey Antwi as the new KMA boss.
