DCOP KEN Yeboah, the new Ashanti regional Police Commander has emphasised that his vision and first priority for the region is to reduce armed robbery and violent crime on the highways, streets and communities to the barest minimum.
He also wants to continue the good work and the solid foundation laid down by his predecessor in the fight against violent crime.
At his first ever media briefing to formally introduce himself and share his vision as the regional commander, DCOP Yeboah stressed that, the media is a major stakeholder in the fight against crime, especially violent crime in the region, with a view of making Asanteman peaceful and conducive for economic development.
According to the police chief, the command will achieve this feat by intensifying their foot and mobile patrols around the clock in the city, on the highways and feeder roads and support the neibourhood-watch concept.

He said the police are going to improve management of traffic in the city and increase snap checks. He challenged his officers to be disciplined, hardworking and committed to the task, saying he would not tolerate laziness and indiscipline.
He warned criminals who are planning to resurface or engage in criminal activities because there is a change in command to rethink or reconsider their decision, because the command is re-launching new robust anti-armed robbery strategies to sustain the congenial atmosphere in the region.
He also cautioned those who engage in acts of hooliganism and gangsterism because they would be treated as criminals, stressing that the police are not going to tolerate any land guards and macho men who take the law into their own hands and intimidate innocent and law abiding citizens in the region.
He expressed appreciation for OtumfuoOsei Tutu II and his position not to meddle in criminal cases, and urged all chiefs to do same by giving the Police free hand to operate, without any interference.
The Police Commander, however, expected Nananom and all stakeholders to collaborate with him in fighting crime and ensuring law and order in the region.
He called on well-meaning Ghanaians, individual spirited persons, institutions, organizations and social groups to partner the command in its fight against crime.
In a related development, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two armed robbers to assist in investigations, while a third one is on the run.
Chief Inspector Godwin Ahianyo, the deputy public relations officer at the command, stated at a press briefing, that, on February 27, 2017, complainant Doris Anto, 28, reported to the Suame police station that at about 8:30pm whilst returning home from work and on reaching an area popularly known as “Agenda” near Angel Herbal Center at Kronum Aboahia, she was attacked by some three young men at knife point and was robbed of her hand bag containing an amount of GH90, an ITEL mobile phone and personal clothes.
According to him, the complainant, with the help of two policemen from the Visibility unit, arrested two of the suspects, namely Abdul Rauf, 18, and Osei Yaw, 19.
He disclosed that, upon immediate search conducted on them, police retrieve the ITEL mobile phone and cash of GH57.
Meanwhile, the third suspect, Bashiru Gambo, who managed to escape, is being trailed.
