The management at the Kwabre East District Hospital at Asonomaso is crying for an Administration Block to facilitate operations.
Dr. Imrana Mahama, Medical Superintendent, stated that the hospital has had no Administration Block since its establishment, the lack of which has compelled management to turn the office of the Medical Superintendent into a consulting room.
He stated that the facility also needs the establishment of a HIV office in the district, to use for the counseling of HIV victims.
The Medical Superintendent in an interview with The Chronicle, stated that HIV cases in the district keep increasing, as compared to 2015 to 2016, and attributed the situation to that fact that people prefer visiting prayer camps and herbalists, instead of hospital, to be diagnosed.
As a result, the Public Health and Disease Control Unit had taken it upon itself to visit remote areas, sensitising and educating the residents on the importance of visiting the health facilities, instead of herbalists and prayer camps.
Dr. Mahama stressed the need to establish a Rehabilitation Center for children who are malnourished, since most of those under five years are victims and need the attention and support of hospital dieticians.
According to the Medical Director, the facility has only one vehicle, a pick-up truck, making it difficult to embark on outreach programmes in rural communities.
He said the facility, as a district hospital, depends on Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for expansion and developmental projects.
He also revealed that the facility is not fenced, and that there was the need to get it fenced to prevent people encroachment on the reserved land for the facility.
He appealed to the government, through the Ministry of Health, stakeholders and philanthropists, to come to their aid, as the IGF is their only source of finance to support all their development projects and other logistics.
