The creative works of the man known better in choral showbiz as ‘The Iconic Ghanaian Composer’ has been recognised at a special choral show held by a Ghana-based singing group, Golden City Chorale (GCC).
Golden City Chorale (GCC), a singing group based in Obuasi, has recognised the creative works of the Ghanaian composer, George Mensah Essilfie, and bestowed the award and citation on him for excellence in music composition.
GCC presented the award and citation to Mensah Essilfie on behalf of his family at a choral show programme, dubbed ‘Hye Me Ma Buronya Concert’, organised by the singing group. ![]()
The objective of the show, at which the iconic Ghanaian composer was awarded, was purposed at appreciating musicians and celebrating them while alive.
Speaking to the Chorale page, one of the organisers, Michael Abubakar, who is also the first Music Director of Ghamecc, stated that the Ghanaian composer has been a model to the group, and would still be to generations unborn.
The Chronicle choral page can report that apart from the GCC bestowing an award on him, George Mensah Essilfie has received many, including international ones.
In 1994, he won an international award with his piece ‘Let there be Peace’, after competing with hundreds of composers across the globe.
Mensah Essilfie’s piece was eventually selected as the outstanding one for the world award.
In a citation accompanying the award, which was presented by the GCC, the group wrote: “Your name has remained unknown to many, but we recall the numerous tracks you have created with ease. Distances have prevented you from holding the hands of individuals, but your music has echoed throughout the times of generations to affect humanity.”
The citation continued: “We have not heard you speak, but people from all walks of life have been inspired, consoled, admonished and empowered to tread the ardous road of life into success and greatness. You, George Mensah Essilfie, have been a blessing to the human race. When we begun life, we chased riches and tangibles, but time and its emptiness therein.”
Words and deeds, according to the citation, are easily forgotten, but “your music and its impact will forever remain cherished. Your untiring effort towards the success of choral music throughout the world is considered exceptional and inspirational. You are a true leader and an icon in the choral world.
“Your compositions of music have been unique, impressive and effective into winning souls for Christ, healing the sick, bringing joy to the broken hearted, and restoring hope to the discouraged. Consequently, we the members of Golden City Chorale, therefore, appreciate and recognise your leadership skills and songs being taught and performed at various occasions by different churches and choral groups to the upliftment of the Most High God, proclaiming His power, grace and love. Golden City Chorale, Ghana, and generations appreciate you and your music today.
