A message, obviously from an exclusive group within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was intercepted on social media. Allegedly authored by one Alhaji Roger Wuniwumda, and entitled, Some Issues to Press On, he asked comrades go public on some six issues.
He talked about the need to make sure that this new administration does not reverse the appointments of comrades recently employed by the NDC; to exert pressure on the Nana Addo’s administration to fulfill its promises; to resist the prosecution and conviction of NDC members; to prevent the NPP government for taking credit of projects started by the NDC government; to demand execution of all projects signed by the NDC government; to take pictures of uncompleted projects started by the NDC government and publicise them to put pressure on the new government.
The main idea is to set the agenda for this current regime and put pressure on it to redirect its attention on infrastructure and defray from its campaign promises. Hopefully, if this administration resorts to going for loans, it can be criticised and made to look useless in the eyes of Ghanaians.
It was a well thought out plan to make sure that the Nana Addo administration stays out of focus and with the NDC drawing up the agenda.
This piece from social media could easily be disregarded, but for earlier comments from discussions on pro-NDC media houses which confirmed this agenda. Even before H.E. Nana Addo was sworn into office, there were demands on him to fulfill his campaign promises. Some panelists had listed closed to over ninety-five percent of manifesto promises, which, to them, cannot be fulfilled. There was also the pledge to always hold the President to his promises to make sure that he stays out of focus.
Other sources revealed the underground campaign to push the new government out of track and find other ways to nail it to corruption and poor governance.
So, when the President was found out to have made certain statements in his inaugural speech, without acknowledging the original orators, the scandal of plagiarism was hanged on his neck. The substance of his speech was not discussed, and the NDC jumped to tell the whole world how “corrupted” our new President was. It turned out that H.E. Mahama had also committed the same fault.
Very much determined, and very eager to roll out whatever demonic agenda they might have plotted to paint this new regime in a bad light, some members of the NDC would not wait for, at least, the expiration of the last government’s budgetary period to end in March, at which time, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will then have full control of this nation’s affairs.
At all costs, the colours of corruption must be splashed on H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his team of appointees. But the fine moment they chose turned out to become their own undoing. Mahama Ayariga had accused a nominee, Boakye Agyarko, of offering a bribe of GH¢3,000 to the minority on the committee.
Let us take a look at what happens at the vetting committee and see whether it is necessary to bribe MPs. Assuming no consensus was reached after the vetting of a nominee, the matter would be debated on the floor of the House, and, most likely, the Majority will have its way.
So would it make sense for Boakye Agyarko to go bribing the minority on the committee, when he knows that he can rely on at least 61% of the House to push his nomination through? And this fine gentleman, like all NPP members, will never do that.
Even, as it is now, the NDC in Parliament are split on this allegation of corruption. The Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, who was alleged by Mahama, Ayariga to have discussed the bribe money issue with him, has come out strongly on Joy FM’s News File, denying the story and calling his colleague a liar.
Interestingly, the issue also took a religious dimension when both MPs, who are Muslims, called on Allah to be their witness. So, definitely one is telling the truth.
Meanwhile, filler coming from the House indicate that the allegation was false and without basis, and should be disregarded. And the nominee, now an honorable minister, has promised to seek redress in court.
The question is why will an honorable member of the House stoop so low to do something this horrible? It only proves the agenda of some NDC members to unnecessarily attack this NPP government, and make sure that it falls flat and never stay focused on its business of governance? And what a way to go about this – by establishing corruption against H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo and his government.
The long month of January has just ended, and H.E. Nana Addo is yet to have a full month in office. Ninety-five more months to go, and the NDC are already up in arms to bend the truth and are so determined that the honorable title of an MP does not matter in the misleading of Ghanaian with their aspersions and calumniations, and with no sign of fear in calling upon Allah to be their witness.
For the sake of this nation, we must all back this regime and support it to deliver. It is now the duty of all NPP faithful to also go into battle to counter all lies and detractions thrown at government. It is time to make the difference for Ghana’s sake.
