From Edmond Gyebi, Walewale
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Walewale, Dr. Sagre Bambangi, has said that his vision is not to witch-hunt any political opponent, but to ensure the smooth implementation of his party’s manifesto, in order to improve the development and wellbeing of the people in his constituency.
According to him, his first major task is to unite the people and work peacefully with all of them.
The NPP MP said, even though he was expecting the defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the area, Abdallah Abubakari, to call or visit him to congratulate him on his victory to enable his supporters know that they were a united people, that has not happened.
“But the District Chief Executive, David Wuni, has called to congratulate me and also visited my house, but the NDC candidate, who is also our Northern Regional Minister and supposed to be a father for all, has still not seen the need to call me. Elections are over, and we must remain united as one people.”
That notwithstanding, Dr. Bambangi, at a durbar in Walewale to thank the chiefs and people for their votes, emphasised that he was going to work with everybody in the constituency, irrespective of their political, religious, or tribal affiliation.

He, therefore, cautioned NPP supporters to continue to live in peace with all the people, since they were one people with one common destiny.
Dr. Sagre Bambangi said that he would work in line with the broader vision of the NPP to ensure that the one district one factory, one village one dam, and other promises were fulfilled.
He particularly mentioned that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would build well-regulated mechanised irrigation schemes to promote the agricultural sector in the area, and Northern Region at large.
“Agriculture is the main stay of Ghana’s economy, and over 65% of Ghanaians have their livelihoods from that sector. Therefore, building a solid and vibrant agricultural sector means addressing the economic challenges of over 65% of Ghanaians; and this is what NPP and Nana Addo intend to implement, and Walewale will not be left out.” Dr. Sagre Bambangi said that the NPP government would support farmers with tractors and other modern equipment to boost agriculture everywhere in Ghana.
He said that Walewale, which is located on the Tamale-Bolgatanga-Burkina Faso trunk road, provides hope for a vibrant commercial hub for the north. The MP, therefore, invited more local and foreign investors into the area, as the government also seeks to build more roads and other basic infrastructure.
Dr. Sagre hinted that the poor standard of education in the Walewale Constituency, which had fallen below imagination, would be tackled holistically to ensure the comprehensive development of the human capital in the area.
He said that he had the plans to engage all the key stakeholders, including the Education Directorate, chiefs, parents and heads of schools, to develop mechanisms to promote quality education in the Walewale Constituency.
According to the MP, his hope is to see more children, especially the girl child, in the classroom, and also ensure their retention, stop school children from roaming aimlessly on the streets at night, or dropping out of school to engage in child labour, or early marriages. “We are the leaders of today, and it’s our duty to create a good future for our young ones.”
The NPP MP, who claimed to have supported his people in diverse ways even in opposition, expressed his profound appreciation to the people for voting massively for him and the NPP.
He was confident that, with his government now in power, he could do far better for the people than he did in the last four years in opposition. His recent support to the people was a donation of a GH¢90,000 ambulance to the Walewale Government Hospital, and donations to over 1,029 disaster victims among others.
He prayed that the people rally behind him and the NPP to succeed on their mandate.
